How Altered Carbon Building Intelligence works
Altered Carbon Building Intelligence gives buildings their own vital signs. Discreet sensors monitor the hidden conditions inside a building - moisture, humidity, temperature, air quality and leak signals - learning what normal looks like and alerting you early when something begins to change. That means problems can be dealt with sooner, before they become expensive, disruptive or damaging.
At the heart of the platform is a new class of sensor technology made from graphene, an advanced material far more sensitive than the components used in traditional monitors. These sensors detect very small changes others miss. AIRaware uses them to watch the air and mould risk; LEAKaware uses them to watch for water and hidden moisture. Smart software looks at patterns over time, rather than single readings, so you get meaningful insight rather than constant alerts.
Designed to work quietly in the background
Altered Carbon does not rely on harsh thresholds or loud alarms. Instead, it builds a picture of a building's environment day by day. When conditions start to behave differently for longer than they should - moisture building in a wall, a slow leak under a sink, air quality drifting - it flags them clearly and calmly in the app. This early-warning approach helps you act while issues are still easy to fix.
Nothing else on the market works quite this way. Altered Carbon brings the same class of technology used by professionals into simple, discreet devices for everyday buildings - from a single home to a large portfolio. It is about reassurance, not fear. Quiet confidence, not guesswork.
Technical summary (for those who want the detail)
Battery-powered graphene sensors sample continuously and transmit via the gateway (Wi-Fi, or cellular with a built-in SIM) to the cloud, where pattern-based AI turns long-term changes into clear, actionable alerts. AIRaware and LEAKaware run on the same gateway and app, contributing to one view of building health.
Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between AIRaware and LEAKaware?
Both are sensing products on the same Altered Carbon platform, gateway and app. AIRaware monitors the air - humidity, temperature, wall moisture and early mould-risk signals. LEAKaware monitors for water - dampness, moisture and leak signals in high-risk areas. Use either on its own, or both together for a fuller picture of building health.
How are the sensors installed?
Every sensor is peel-and-stick - no tools, no wiring, no disruption. Place an AIRaware sensor on the wall in rooms you want to monitor for air quality and mould risk, or a LEAKaware sensor at high-risk points such as under sinks, behind boilers and beneath baths. Register it in the app and monitoring begins - a bathroom or kitchen takes minutes, a small property under ten.
How do the sensors connect?
Sensors connect wirelessly to a central gateway, which streams their readings to the cloud. Choose a Wi-Fi gateway where reliable broadband is available, or a cellular gateway with its own built-in SIM for properties without it - so the system keeps working wherever it is deployed.
How many sensors do I need?
It depends on what you are protecting. For AIRaware, we recommend one sensor per room you want to monitor - typically bedrooms, bathrooms and main living areas. For LEAKaware, place sensors at the high-risk points where hidden water damage starts - under sinks, behind boilers, beneath baths and near concealed plumbing. Start small and add more to the same gateway and app any time.
How big are the sensors and how are they powered?
Each sensor is small, discreet and battery powered, with the battery guaranteed for three years.
What happens if a sensor fails?
If a sensor or battery fails within the three-year period, we will replace it free of charge. After three years, sensors should be replaced to maintain accuracy and reliability.
